2025 Hamilton Wheelers Junior Team Training and Racing Program
AusCycling membership with Hamilton Wheelers as your nominated road cycling club is compulsory.
Membership options here - Find your Perfect Ride | Become a Member | AusCycling
Triathlon Australia members can receive a $50 reimbursement when you purchase the AusCycling All Discipline membership.

From Term 4, we will be streamlining our junior training program. All junior riders will now train together in one combined session. Thursday afternoons, 4:30 – 6:00pm

Please note that there will not be a coached training session on Tuesday.

We believe this new format will provide several key benefits for our riders:

  • Stronger team culture – training together across age groups helps build better team dynamics.

  • More effective coaching – our coaching team can deliver more tailored and appropriate sessions for all abilities. Coach Alistair will attend Thursday sessions alongside coaches Scott and Jim.

  • Improved support – consolidating sessions ensures backup is always available if a coach is away.

  • Engaging and varied program – all age groups will benefit from a broader mix of activities and session formats.

Sign up for term 4 training will be available here. Race fixture - EntryBoss

2024 Road Championship Junior Report - Lachlan Chamberlain

As part of our Junior Sponsorship Policy the club can provide financial assistance to junior members travelling and competing in State and National events. One of these junior riders is Lachlan Chamberlain who has kindly provided this report of his racing after travelling to Bundaberg for the State Road Championships.

The weekend started with a nice flat, although really windy ITT. The ride out was really fast and the ride back was really tough. I came in 9th place with a time of 21.52 & 40kph average for the 15km, 1:55 off first. I hoped for a higher placing, however in the conditions it was the best I could do.

Saturday was the road race, as some people call it, the main event. There’s was a good turnout of 20 riders in U17 men’s group. First lap was nice and controlled until the second lap where legs were tested as there was an attack on the sharpest hill. At this point I got dropped with some other riders but worked with them to get back onto the main group within the same lap. Coming into the last lap where there were a few attacks testing each other however no one was able to break away so it came down to a bunch sprint finish. I manage to get into a good position on the right wheel for the sprint and came away with 6th being the highest placed Hamilton U17 junior for the race.

Sunday was a windy and technical criterium. The race started off with attack after attack and eventually two riders broke away. After that many of us tried to bridge back across but with no luck. Lachlan Walters and I were in the same group of chasers until the last lap where he launched his attack to finish 6th and I finished 10th.

Big thank you to Hamilton Wheelers for continuing to support junior racing and
sponsoring my trip to Bundy.

Introducing Crit Cross

Crit Cross is designed with fun and skill-building in mind, this innovative race format combines elements of traditional cyclocross on a flat grass track with obstacles suitable for junior cyclists on normal road bikes. Unlike traditional cyclocross courses with challenging terrains, Crit Cross is accessible to riders of all levels, making it perfect for beginner cyclist aged from 7-12 years old.

Key Features

  1. Fun and Skill-Based Racing: Crit Cross focuses on skill development and enjoyment. Riders will navigate through a series of obstacles strategically placed along the grass track, testing their agility, balance, and bike handling skills.
  2. Suitable for Road Bikes: One of the standout features of Crit Cross is its compatibility with normal road bikes. This eliminates the need for specialized equipment, making it easier for junior cyclists to participate and enjoy the sport without additional expenses.
  3. Safe and Controlled Environment: Safety is our top priority. Crit Cross events are organized in controlled environments with appropriate safety measures in place, ensuring that riders can enjoy the thrill of racing while parents can have peace of mind.
  4. Skill Development: Crit Cross helps junior cyclists hone their bike handling skills, improve their agility, and build confidence on the saddle.
  5. Fun and Excitement: With its fast-paced action, Crit Cross promises an adrenaline-pumping experience that will keep young riders engaged and entertained.
  6. Inclusive Participation: Crit Cross welcomes riders of all skill levels, promoting inclusivity and sportsmanship among junior cyclists.

Crit Cross is a new type of race which will be part of the Juniors Super League event.
